LOCATION
Prairie City SVRA is situated at the base of the Sierra Nevada foothills, twenty miles east of downtown Sacramento and three miles south of U.S. 50. The area offers off-highway vehicle enthusiasts a variety of terrain and trails.
FACILITIES
4X4 AREA The 4×4 area is a haven for those who like to play in the mud. The very heavy clay is extremely challenging for mud extremists. Just remember that if you get stuck it is your responsibility to get yourself out.
In 1994 the OHV Division gave a grant to the California Association of 4 Wheel Drive Clubs to install a Safety course in the area. One was designed and during one weekend over 115 volunteers from the Association showed up and put the Stair Steps and Frame Twister in. These are permanent parts of the course and can be used by all during park hours.
The courses were so well liked by all that the Park received another grant from the OHV division to add additional courses to the 4×4 area. Again in 1995 volunteers from the Association installed the Mud Pit, which is cement lined, and addition to the Frame Twister and the Rubicon. The Rubicon is a very difficult course. It was not put in for beginners.
The Capital city Mountain Goat 4 Wheel Drive Club puts on three two day Safety Clinics during the year. Four existing courses in the 4×4 area are used for the training, The Stop Course, where you go up 3/4 of the way, stop, shut your engine off, put on your brake, and then start up the hill again. The Back Down the Hill Course where you back down a hill using your mirrors and not looking over your shoulders, then you do the Stair Steps and the Frame Twister first phase. Two other courses set up at Clinic Time are used. The Block Course and the Back-Up Course. A demonstration of the Rubicon is given. The participants can do the Mud Pit and San Pit.
Park Hours: The park is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 8:00 AM till sunset.
Other Park Areas: Motorcycle/ATV Staging Area, Hangtown MX Track, Practice Track for Motorcycles and ATV’s, Mini-Track for motorcycles and ATV’s, 90cc’s and under, Quarter Midget Track, Go Kart Track, Clay Oval Track, Mud Drag Area and other Special Events.
